Manual loading and unloading of storage bins remains a time‑consuming and error‑prone process in many manufacturing workshops. Repetitive manual handling leads to inconsistent throughput, human error and high labour costs. To address these pain points, Truman developed a custom cantilever‑type three‑axis gantry robot for storage‑bin automation upgrade for a manufacturing client in Zhejiang, delivering fully automatic loading and unloading for material silos and storage bins.
This cantilever gantry manipulator features a compact cantilever mechanical layout, specially optimised for installation beside storage bin units. A key highlight of this system is multi‑device interoperability. The gantry robot establishes stable wireless communication with AGV carts on‑site. During both material feeding and discharging workflows, real‑time data exchange takes place between the robot and input‑side and output‑side storage bins. Combined with vision inspection modules, the whole solution realises closed‑loop data control covering raw‑material incoming, bin storage, handling and finished‑goods outbound.
With a payload of 20 kg and positioning accuracy up to ±0.5 mm, the three‑axis mechanism runs at adjustable speeds across X, Y and Z axes. Its moderate travel range fits perfectly for bin‑side material transfer scenarios. The cantilever structure saves valuable floor space compared with full‑frame gantry systems, making retrofitting onto existing production lines much simpler.
The integrated automation system eliminates manual intervention in storage‑bin handling. It stabilises cycle times, reduces picking errors and improves traceability of material flow. This custom gantry robot proves an effective turn‑key solution for enterprises looking to retrofit existing storage facilities toward unmanned production. It can be adapted for similar bin‑loading‑unloading requirements across multiple industries.
